The first A 330-200 aircraft of the Sri Lankan Airline leased from France 23 years ago is to be returned to the company of origin on the expiry of the lease.

Sri Lankan Airlines had leased the aircraft from the French Airbus Company, the manufacturers of the aircraft.

A spokesman for SriLankan Air said the aircraft had been used for long destinations including Heathrow, Frankfurt, Melbourne, and Moscow routes and had completed 100,000 flight hours.

He said the aircraft had accommodation for 18 business class passengers and 251 economy class passengers.

He said the aircraft was still in serviceable condition but it would be handed over to the French Airbus Company in a couple of days on the expiry of the lease. (T.K.G. Kapila)

Correct decision. Get a new one.

Sri Lankan always getting new for show, instead of making most of what it has at hand Tuesday, 13 June 2023 11:01 AM

If the plane works well, and efficiently then getting a new one will only be unnecessary costs. Airline apparently doesn't have enough jet, but willing to give up instead of trying to get a better deal on the lease expired plane.

Please close shop as well!! No point in having a national carrier running at tax payers expenses making losses and paying salaries in USD for expat ceos ... What load of bull dung is this!!!

IF we compare the cost of leasing Sri Lankan Airlines aircrafts vs the Fits airline aircrafts, perhaps the main culprits that make Sri Lankan Airlines a loss making entity will get highlighted. Further Yahapalanaya cancelling the purchase of newer aircrafts is also a step in the wrong direction it looks like.

Good decision. What we need is to return all the leased air crafts back to Air Bus. Then close the air line. We do not have a proper management to run our air line. Why not try Namal Rajapakse as the new head of UL..

Return or sell the other planes and ground SriLankan airlines immediately. Year ending 2022 airline loss whopping 163 billion rupees. Now that's a insane amount of money, how long Treasury gonna fund this eternally money losing Srilankan airlines!???

Can one figure out how much money was lost during the operation of this aircraft? Perhaps one could purchase an aircraft if we saved that money.

Not sure why we keep this Airline running at the expense of Taxpayers money.. Burden to the country and for her people..

Sri Lanka's premier airline has been running on borrowed feathers under different names for the last two decades or so and still failed to purchase it's own. They say borrowed feathers never shine. I have flown in atleast two of the aircrafts one was a former Ansett plane from Australia the name printed all over the seat while the other was a former Air Jordan aircraft which was rattling all the way from Singapore to Katunayake. Fortunately for me I arrived in one piece
