Six working committees to parliament approved unanimously

Parliament yesterday unanimously approved the proposal of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene to appoint six working committees.

Accordingly, the setting up of the 17-member Legislative Committee headed by the speaker himself, nine-member Committee on Standing Orders, House Committee, Committee on Public Petitions and the Backbencher Committee were unanimously approved by the House

The backbencher committee will comprise the Chief Government Whip, Chief Opposition Whip, eight members from the government and eight members from the opposition. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
