Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) clarified the delay faced by the national cricket team that travelled to Zimbabwe for the World Cup qualifiers, after several cricketers shared images on social media of them waiting to be checked-in into the hotel in Bulawayo.

Images shared on the verified accounts of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Maheesh Theekshana shows several players seated on the ground as they waited to be checked in.

The images, shared via Instagram Stories, have since been deleted.

"The Sri Lankan team has arrived at the hotel today at noon, and at the time of the entry, another national cricket team, who arrived just before the Sri Lankan team, was in the process of "checking in.’," a media statement released by SLC read.

"This situation resulted in a delay in some of the Sri Lankan National Team players being "checked in.’"

"However, SLC, after reporting this matter to the hotel management, was able to rectify the issue within a short period of time," SLC also said in its statement.

Cant they sit on chairs in the lobby. Rather degrading to sit on the floor.

Ground situation in a poor nation Monday, 12 June 2023 07:48 AM

There is a saying that goes as, "You need not fear to speak truth and sit on the floor." There is nothing degrading in this act. They did both when they released these photos of actual ground situation in a poor nation!

It's nothing compared to the days we had to be in the queue for fuel and other basic essentials. Last week, we heard the story of how 4 kids survived for days in the Amazon forest. Tough situations are a test of endurance.

Not a big deal. They can take small difficulties after travelling in business class in luxury. Its peoples' money put to useless use . Offer the excess money to the poor schools to improve their sporting requirements

Is it because of credit card used to make the reservation?.

Oh my goodness !!!They believe they deserved ! Who cares

    Sam Monday, 12 June 2023 05:45 AM

No big deal. If the team is not fit enough to handle a travel delay, how are they gonna handle the stress during the game?

    Clueless Monday, 12 June 2023 05:51 AM

We are one of the few countries that go out of the way to make touring teams comfortable I guess.

Similar to politicians , they dont care our cricketers also . Very sad .

Sri Lankans are now treated as second class citizens in Zimbabwe because the standard and quality of life in Sri Lanka is the same as in Zimbabwe. According to a recent study we are among the top 15 most miserable countries in the world to live.

Poverty genes, no other reason to sit on the floor. Could have sat in the lobby chairs.

    SC Monday, 12 June 2023 07:21 AM

Not a big deal. Come on guys, focus on what you are there for, yes like someone mentioned above, I am sure there would have been chairs for the guy's to sit. Also don't forget, you are representing your country.

    Bandu Monday, 12 June 2023 07:31 AM

Is it a 3star hotel which has no lobby for guests to sit prior check-in.

    Lontha Monday, 12 June 2023 08:19 AM

The Theekshana guy on the floor looks tired of drinking in business class

    Terrence K Monday, 12 June 2023 09:26 AM

All Drama until the Transport came they could have stayed in the Lobby Area where there are chairs. In Sri Lanka do we have chairs outside when passengers are picked up. These cricketers expect VIP treatment . By sitting on the ground outside these Cricketers will definitely endorse we are a not only a bankrupt country in funds but values. One of the greatess lessons to be taught to our Sri Lankans are to be HUMBLE and SIMPLE

3 hours of delay is a short period for a hotel check in ? The corrupt officials in SLC are even defending the hotel management.

We suffer much, SLC should give them worse accomodatio next time Monday, 12 June 2023 03:59 PM

Everyone is used to 3 hours delay for matters here. Who are the cricketers to complain. How do they improve the nation. SLC should house them in cheaper accommodation to save funds.

Instead of posing for their social media feeds like spoilt brats, they could have sat in the Lobby or in the restaurant and had a cup of coffee until their turn came without embarrassing SL and SLC in official clothing.

Rich man makes impossible requests Monday, 12 June 2023 03:49 PM

Maybe you can sponsor them for the coffee. Hotel would charge $100 for coffee. Also is coffee with high caffeine good for players? Sri Lankans also only drink tea, but overseas made tea is over priced and not as good as Ceylon tea.

SLC decieving as usual it does not look like short time from photos Monday, 12 June 2023 03:17 PM

Typical SLC mistakes. They are always messing around, giving players second rate options. They give their traveling staff best option, but give players bad options. Sooner government get rids of SLC and appoints new body for Cricket the better.

Good for them maybe they may play cricket now ....Ha Ha
