President assures to appoint competent authority to Pali University

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured the Sangha Committee of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters that he would appoint a competent authority to the Pali and Buddhist University, Presidential Media Division (PMD) said.

The President said this during a special discussion with the chief prelates of the Sangha Committee of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters at the President’s House in Kandy this afternoon.

The President emphasized that the proposal made by the chief venerable priests on the necessity of a quality restructuring of Piriven education must definitely be implemented.

He emphasized that he would take immediate steps to make the Pali and Buddhist University centre of international Buddhist studies.

The President pointed out that necessary rules will be changed to ensure the monks of the Pali and Buddhist University will obey the discipline of the respective sects in addition to the institutional discipline.

The President accepted the invitation of the chief venerable priests of the Malwathu-Asgiri Sangha Committee to conduct the 2023 Vesak festival with state mediation in a manner that will promote Buddhist revival.
