The Disaster Management Centre today said there is no threat to Sri Lanka following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck near the western coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island today.
They said no tsunami threat was issued to Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, according to foreign media reports, Indonesia's BMKG geophysics agency stated that there was no risk of a tsunami or immediate reports of major catastrophe.
The quake, which occurred on seabed at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), was felt as far away as Singapore and Malaysia and strongly in the nearby cities of Padang in West Sumatra province and Pekanbaru in Riau Province, witnesses said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
