Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that a national-level university will be established to produce teachers.

The Minister revealed this during a discussion with the ministry officials at the Ministry.

"We had many requests to bring colleges to the university level and preliminary discussion regarding the issue has been completed," he said.

"It has been advised to draft that information along with the Cabinet Memorandum. We are creating national-level universities for the teaching profession. When it is established, we will have to increase the number according to the type of subject," he said.

We provide three years of theoretical study training and one year of teacher training. Within four years, qualified teachers will walk into the classrooms. So don't think of those misconceptions. "We are working very hard to build this teacher's university while adding the teacher education service also to it," the Minister said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

You are too late with these reforms. Only achievement unto now is robbing and robbing. Now do we have money for Teacher Producing Universities? Check whether Daisy Archie or even your grandmother can find some gems from any of their hidden holes.

Here we go again, all we need is courses in pre school teaching, early childhood teaching, primary and secondary school teaching in our established universities. No need to establish another university dedicated to producing teachers. The ministers reasoning is a consequence of rote learning

Is the Minister talking with the foot in his mouth. The meaning attached to what he state is the present day teachers who taught him and the Politicians are from non National level Universities. No wonder!

No point in creating merely universities for this purpose till we update our pedagogy and teaching standard..first we need to create good lecturers who could create some innovative teachers..but how many people in our NIE and other universities are qualified to train teachers.. Send at least 100 good academic lecturers in education to some UK universities to do A PGCE courses in different subjects and spending money to train our university lecturers in education is worth than those buildings ...Do not invest in buildings as Mahinda did but invest in producing good university lecturers. They will know what to teach and how to teach for next generations.. The problem is those education ministers in Sri Lanka don't have brain to guide our next generations

In the first 5 to 16 years of every child’s experience the greatest experience is to watch how teachers teach and manage lessons. This happens for five days of every week for nine months each year. During this very impressionable 11 years all the children spend more time in schools than even with their parents at home. Afterwards those going for higher education spend two more years in schools doing ALevel before going to university and spend further three or four years , this time learning and experiencing how the academics teach and manage lectures. So by the time a person comes out of the university he or she has experienced at least 16 years of watching how TEACHING and THE MANAGEMENT OF TEACHING IS CONDUCTED. After this 16 solid years of experience it is ludicrous to think that a teacher training is needed to become a teacher. With this experience what is actually needed is a natural passion for teaching and good technical knowledge gained in the subject matter at the University.

To achieve success , you should not be recruiting O/L and A/L qualified students but set a standard to enrol the universities with degree holders from recognized universities.

Before having a grand University College for teachers, Please! please!! place our educational system in order. What teachers are you trying to produce, without knowing what type of education you want to impart to children? Bulls! Bullish!! Bulldozing!!!
