The National Anthem was sung in both the Sinhala and Tamil languages at the first Independence Day celebration, Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena said.

The first Independence day celebration was held on February 4, 1949 and it was specially mentioned in the invitation card that the national anthem would be sung in the Sinhala and Tamil languages.

Therefore singing the national anthem in the Tamil Language is not a big issue.

At the 68th Independence Day event, the National Anthem was sung in both Sinhala and Tamil. (Anjula Maheeka Weeraratne)

When I read these comments I am ashamed to call myself a Sinhalese. Why these so called Sri Lankan's cant live in Peace without creating new problems? When Tamils are in other countries they call themselves Sri Lankan's more than Sinhalese do. So why cant they live in harmony in their adopted land Sri Lanka for the sake of peace?
