Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse a group of protesters from the Joint Trade Unions and Civil Organisations at Borella a short while ago.
The Maligakanda Magistrate issued an order earlier preventing several trade unions from engaging in protests or demonstrations in several areas in the Maradana Police division, including Dean's Road, Kinsey Road and roads close to the National Hospital Square, causing inconvenience to the public and motorists from 10.30 am today till 10.00 am tomorrow.
