JVP files FR petition against swindling of tax money from sugar import

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today filed a fundamental rights petition citing that fundamental rights of people have been violated due to the loss incurred by the government through the reduction of tax on imported sugar.

JVP Politburo member Sunil Hadunnetti and former Provincial Councillor attorney-at-law Sunil Watagala filed the FR petition in the Supreme Court.

Attorney General, Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundara, Treasury Secretary S.R. Attygalle and several others have been named as respondents.(Farook Thajudeen)

Organisations profited from the reduction and people still pay the same price. By reducing tax on sugar imports they are discouraging local sugar. By the way , shouldn't we start reducing our sugar consumption significantly so that we can avoid many heath issues.

Can anyone commenting here remind me of any action taken by JVP against any financial misappropriation committed by previous regime? When the joint opposition was critical about bond scam etc, JVP kept on attacking only JO.
