The Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D Wickramaratna has expressed regret over the incident in which a verbal clash had taken place between police officers and several army personnel attached to Army motorcycle squad at the roadblock near the Parliament complex during a public protest yesterday, police said.
An investigation was launched yesterday after Army Commander General Shavendra Silva requested the IGP to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
The incident took place when the Army motorcycle squad attempted to ride their motorcycles despite the police barricades being set up to prevent protesters entering towards parliament.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Defense had also requested the IGP and the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security to take immediate action in this regard.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said an investigation is already underway and further action will be taken according to the outcome of the probe.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

What police officer did was 100% correct. We salute them for their wise decision to avoid a blood bath. Army should make an investigation on army soldiers for their absurd work not on great police officers

Police did their job well, they blocked a motor bike without an identification. Army patrolling without any identification is a sign of threatening people, it seems army is trying to apply the lesson learned from North to South. This is their usual method in North and East during protests and some important remembrance days to control public presence.

Tell the army commander to apologise to the brave police officers. Stupid commandos, what do they think they are? A law unto themselves

Why regret? Police officers have done their job and it is not against constitution.

Those police officers did their job to protect the innocent people. The IGP should be defending his policemen and thanking them for being so brave. To do that you need to have a backbone. The defence secretary and the Army commander should apologise to people in this country for sending the goons squads to behave in a disorderly and threatening manner.

Take disciplinary actions against the riders for not obeying when police officers tried to stop.

We salute police officers with backbone to protect civilians. Army commander apologize to police and general public

Is the Army Commander trying to divert the attention away from the crisis? Or is he trying to drive wedge between Police and Army? Either way it not good.

Why they did not communicate with the senior pilice officer there before start patrol. Shouldn't they do that a situation like this to communicate all law enforcements so that they know who is where
