The Government introduced a new insurance scheme for the Buddhist clergy, and insurance certificates were handed over to members of the Maha Sangha yesterday, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The health insurance scheme titled ‘Nagaraja Sakyaputra’ was launched by Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
In the event of hospitalisation of mother, father or siblings of a Buddhist monk, a payment of Rs.1000 is paid up to Rs.15, 000 to the maximum. For a medical test during hospitalisation, the maximum payment is Rs.25,000. The annual premium is Rs.2000.
