While claiming that the government is going against the mandate given by 6.9 million people, Minister Udaya Gammanpila admitted that they have initiated a struggle within the government.
“Some people ask us whether there is an internal rift within the government. It is true that we have begun a struggle within the government. That struggle is not to destroy the govt, but to protect it, especially the mandate the people had given and the confidence they have on us,” he said.
He said they, as those who pioneered to bring this government to power, have the entire right to blame, adding that the mistakes of the government should be pointed out as and when they are made.
Speaking at an event, he said some clauses of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution are against the mandate, adding that “20A would not have been possible, if we stick to the mandate. We should honour the aspiration of the 6.9 million people who voted for us. If we are to honour the mandate, the 20A would not have been possible. Leaders of this government cannot even think of the concept to sell Eastern Jetty of the Colombo port. These things happen if we go against the mandate given by 6.9 million voters,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Is the haphazard import controls imposed by the government to create a scarcity and escalation of prices in the local market a secret pact with the 6.9 million people or going against the so-called mandate?
