The Petroleum Dealers’ Association (PDA) today said there is a fuel shortage in the country after the recent fuel price reduction.
The co-secretary of the association, Kapila Naotunna, told the Daily Mirror that most of the fuel filling stations have not placed their orders due to the price revision.
"Due to their not placing orders, the filling stations have not received fresh stocks and hence currently there is a shortage of both petrol and diesel. Several vehicle queues can be seen at filling stations now," Naotunna said.
"There is no fuel shortage in the country. The current fuel shortage is only man-made, and it will return to normal in Colombo and the suburbs by this evening and in other provinces by tomorrow," he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickarama)

The Minister should see if the SAP system at CPSTL can be adjusted to have fuel issued at the reduced price 12 hours before midnight of the reduction date. And then if needed they can detain the loaded bowsers till 2 hours before midnight at the gate to prevent undue advantage to shed owners.

Next time send the filling stations with regular order at regular date with the prevailing price. If they don't accept impose a penalty or surcharge. The dealers bound to place regular orders contrary to market prices!! Have a price mechanism to control errant filling station owners!! Don't allow some monkeys to inconvenience the public!!

The problem is now really easy to solve. Fuel prices, like currency exchange rates, should be reset every morning. In Europe, this sometimes even happens several times a day. There, however, the prices are set by the oil companies for the petrol sheds that belong to their fuel station chain. The state is not involved.
