Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ruwan Wijewardene said his party will likely form an alliance to face upcoming elections.
“A number of opposition MPs have indicated their willingness to join the President,” he said.
Wijewardene added that the year 2024 will be a year of elections.

Sajith is not mature enough understand the world politics and experienced to lead a country like RW ,he should work as PM under president Ranil for at least another 10 years . if people elect some good educated guys to parliament and support RW to be president we will have a great future since RW is leader of vision and integrity ,he can transform .only thig he needs is a bunch of educated and uncorrupted MPs to bring back our country to glory. See how world politicians treated Ranil and others ,did they give the same importance and respect to any other former president

Your leader has heinously and deliberately delayed one election that was due. Moreover, he has heinously suppressed the fundamental rights of the people and has proclaimed himself a "Hitler". I do not think that he will hold a presidential election until it is due. However, he cannot evade this. Hold this and you would be able to see what the preferences of the people are.

This is not news as according to the constitution both the Presidential and General elections should be held no one can claim credit for announcing it to the country.
