Water levels rising after heavy rains in Polonnaruwa

The Civil Security Department (CSD) today said the water levels at the Maduru Oya and the Kuda Oya in Polonnaruwa have risen because of the heavy rains in the area.

“The CSD, the District Secretariat and the Police have adopted safety measures in case of floods,” Polonnaruwa CSD Commander K.D. Chandrapala said.   

Meanwhile residents of Samankaduwa, Lankapura, Manampitiya and Gallella were warned of possible floods because ten sluice gates of the Parakrama Samudraya have been opened, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

The Meteorology Department said heavy rains would occur in the North Central Province today.
