Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said today that he is still a prisoner. “I was released as a faced to show the public that I’m a free man, but in reality, I’m still a prisoner on one hand. My democratic rights have been curtailed and I’m fighting to restore them,” he said.

The Former Army Commander made these remarks when his appeal against a court martial conviction was taken up today at the Court Of Appeal. “I have come here to ensure that the people here the truth. They said that I dabbled in politics while I was in the Army and convicted me,” he said

Speaking on the increase in crime rates in the country Fonseka said that many criminals believe that they would not have to face justice. “Most of the recent crimes have been committed by grass root level politicians attached to the government. They are of the belief that they would not have to pay the price for their crimes and that the government would somehow take care of them which is why they commit them. We have to put an end to this,” he said.
