Veteran, award winning cinematographer and film director M. A. Gafoor passed away this morning and his funeral will take place at the Thihariya Muslim Burial Grounds this evening at 4 pm.
Gafoor who started his film career at Ceylon Studios, has handled the camera in more than 200 Sinhala movies and he also directed two Sinhala films – Shirani and Sagara Thilina.
He first became a fully fledged cine cameraman in Yasapalitha Nanayakkara’s ‘Sahayata Danny’ and later followed it up with several hits including Obatai Priye Adare, Bangali Walalu, Dese Mal Pipila, Pudumai Eth Eththai, Jolly Hello, Ohoma Harida, Hadawatha Mal Yayai and others. He also wrote the story and dialogues for Pudumai Eth Eththai.
He also directed the camera for several tele dramas. He was last working in Padmasiri Kodikara’s newest tele series ‘Korale Mahaththaya’.
