Seventeen senior students of the Allied Health Faculty of the University of Peradeniya have been suspended from attending lectures because they had ragged freshers.

The disciplinary officer of the University, Senior Lecturer Dr Ashoka Dangolla, said an inquiry had been conducted into allegations of ragging by them, and it had been decided to suspend them from Wednesday (23).

A new female entrant to the faculty had been ragged inhumanly and given up following the course. What had happened was an inhuman type of ragging he said.

He added that ragging was completely banned by the University and no one would be allowed to engage in such activities. (Nadeeka Daya Bandara)

Why this inhumane activities can't be stopped out right. In sri lanka 10% of university entrents are able to get in to the university. It is unfortunate these idiots can not understand why they are there at the first place. Ragging innocent student, what do they gain. Sack them and teach them a lesson.

Ragging is a criminal offence under a law introduced a few years ago. These students should not only be suspended but charged in court as well.

Ragging is going on in Kelaniya University beside the entrance road in broad daylight. No one is there to take any actions. New students are addressed in filth. Who has given them authority to harass these innocent students?? Where are the human rights ....these are the so called intelligent people selected for higher studies...where can you see their intelligence ...humanity...decency...etc..

Leaders and supporters of University Student Movements get onto the roads frequently to air their grievances, seeking justice from the Government. Why cannot they understand the injustice they cause to new comers even depriving their fundamental rights to have a decent university education from Day 1. Can they say they are better than many sycophants in Diyawanna today taking this country towards a hell hole ? Percy
