Two suspects arrested; locally-made weapons seized

A woman and her son were arrested yesterday after they were found to have had in their possession a stock of locally-made weapons.

Police said three others youths who were inside the house at the time it was raided by the Walana Anti-Vice Squad were also arrested but later released.  

The raid on the house situated at Naranwala in Meegahawatta was carried out after the police were tipped off about the suspicious behavior of the residents.

Police seized eight petrol bombs, a sword, a large knife, five iron bars, a Kris knife and a gun-shaped item made out of wood.

The suspects will be produced before the Mahara Magistrate today.
