Two policemen injured during search

Two police officers attached to the Weligama Police Station were hospitalised after they were assaulted by a gang in Midigama while attempting to prevent a possible clash between supporters of two political parties.
Police said the two officers had gone in search of the would-be attackers after receiving a complaint from one political party that a group of opposition supporters was preparing to attack them.
The injured officers were admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital. Police had arrested two persons on charges of assaulting the two officers.
