Two faculties of the Moratuwa Uni closed

NDT is not a faculty within the University. It's a separate institute called "Institute of Technology" which is temporarily located within the University premises.

this wasn't a clash a group of NDT students along with some of their outside ruffians attacked the students who were in their hostel rooms at the time

Kirala, what's your point? As far as I know the degree course was started at Katubwedda well after the NDT course. Both parties are to be. Lamed for the present situation. In the past wise student leaders managed to unite all studens for common good. It seems the current trend of violance in the country, lack of democracy and rule of law in the country are reflected in universities as well.

Raja I agreed. Still Kirala can see it in uni VC office building poster. Those leader can join politics and get a better job.. Like chairman of ports authority....gaining fake doctorate.

Kirala you areb wrong, Actually Moratuwa university used to be Technical College and its belongs to NDT untill degree started 30 or 40 years ago. But Until very recently both side enjoy their university life well together. Even freshes night were together and etc. I was one of them and we did even think differently. These all differences until you complete your course, when they started the work, its all irrelavant. Whoever tallenetd lead the firm or company. I know so many examples NDT students leading companies. Its stupid to fight for nothing and both party needs to live together. I hope this will be back in this 21st century.

MO,You are very correct.Present degree holders were Dip Tech prior to 1972.You should not undermine anybody as all other countries as well as Open university has Diploma And Degree programmes conducting together. VC and his staff should advse both studentsections how to live together.

The rivalry between two student groups could be due to lack of opportunities or the competition in the job market. One group see the other group as their enemy, but the real problems lie some where else. These narrow minded students need to be educated on these real issues. Also these students should understand that the higher education is no longer limited to a selected few. There are so many private institutes offering world recognised qualifications. While students at government universities fight each other, students at local and overseas private institutes continue to enjoy a good education. They will be better placed in the job market too.
