Two cops killed and three injured in accident

Two police officers were killed and another three were injured when a van collided head on with a tipper truck at Ududumbara on the Kandy-Mahiyanganaya main road early this morning.

Police said the officers, attached to the Galaha police station, were returning in the van from a funeral at Madugalle, Ududumbara.

The injured Police officers were admitted to the Kandy hospital and the deceased have been identified as a Sub-Inspector and a Police Constable, the Police said.

The driver of the tipper was arrested.(DS)
