Two arrested over the killing of film maker’s aunt

Two suspects in the killing of an aunt of the late filmmaker Tissa Abeysekara in Welikada on September 28 were arrested today by the special investigation unit of the Western Province (South) DIG’s office.
Police said Margaret Fernando, an aunt of Tissa Abeysekara had been strangled and her house had been burgled by the two suspects – aged 26 and 27 years.
The suspects are residents of Poddala in Galle.
Three gold rings and a gold chain robbed from the house were recovered after interrogation of the suspects.
It was reported that one of the suspects had been working in the house as an aide.
Further investigations are being carried out by the special investigation unit of the Western Province (South) DIG’s office.
