As long as it's not cows it shouldn't be a problem, this is the philosophy in Sri Lanka. We violently protest and go to the extent of self immolation in respect to legal slaughtering of cows which is for the general consumption of majority of countries population. While it is this kind of inhumane, illegal and cruel action is what we should oppose with unison. While cows are far from getting extinct it's the turtles (and dolphins) which are protected. But hey! we are very clever in making noise for all the wrong reasons !!!

I always wondered why sale of animal flesh is prohibited on Poya days. Oh yes, animals have hearts that beat like in humans, but what about fish? Don't they have beating hearts? Don't our hearts go out to them too when we see them trying to breath, opening and closing their mouths in agony as they are landed???

Only way to stop this is to make the punishment much more harsher for the killers and fine the restaurants heavily for selling turtle soup.

Sri Lanka is still belong to the third world. Thats why the majority of the Sri Lankans brought up by their children like robots who do not have any sort of compassion towards animals or plants because they did not. posses any pets. These people when they grow up become killers. The parents are to be blamed.
