Senior-most singer passes away
Senior-most vocalist Kalabushana Vincent de Paul Peiris of ‘Siri Pade Samanala Kanda Pene’ fame passed away late last night at the age of 92.
The legendary singer went down history a couple of years ago when he held a significant musical event here featuring his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on stage.
Vincent who was born on November 3, 1922, is known for hits like Bicycale Bicycale, Dumriya Lankawe, Shobama Me Ude, Mihintale Poson Dine, Asokamala, Rickshaw Karaya and many more.
Vincent, an old boy of St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena, and De La Salle College, Modera, started off his tuneful career as a hobby and made his singing debut on December 15, 1940.
He contributed as playback singer in films like Prema Tharangaya and Podi Putha and even acted along with Sheela Peiris and Kingsley Jayasekara in Gambada Sundari.
