Former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian and TULF General Secretary V. Anandasangaree yesterday urged TNA leader R. Sampanthan to take a strong team to Geneva and not to allow others to cheat the innocent Tamil people.
“To be very frank I now feel that the TNA must go to Geneva with a very strong team that will do its duty in the proper way, without depending on people who do not know even the recent history and of the losses and sufferings, mental and physical, that our people under went. At this juncture please take note that a group of innocent persons still kept under detention may be put to severe hardships due to the foolish utterances of some of our leaders.
In conclusion I plead with you to take over the responsibility, to take a strong team to Geneva. If you are unable to do so, please don’t allow anyone to cheat our innocent people, who have so much of confidence in the TNA. As usual you may leave me and go to Geneva but please see that you take people who work with much devotion. If you are not going to Geneva, I am prepared to go if informed in time,” Mr. Anandasangaree said in his letter to Mr. Sampanthan.
“You are aware of the confusion created just before the previous sitting of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva. At the beginning the impression given to us was that the TNA will be visiting Geneva to brief the Member Nations of the Human Right Commission. Some members of the TNA were preparing and the people were happy. But all of a sudden you announced that the TNA after a long deliberation lasting more than six hours decided not to go to Geneva. This news is as reported in the Thinakkural of 03.03.2012.
This decision made the people very angry. I wrote a lengthy letter urging that the TNA should go and brief the Member Nations or their representatives. Some Members of the TNA most of whom are from the Federal Party gave various reasons for not participating in the briefing. In all seriousness I am asking you whether you want our people who had lost several lives and their means of living to accept the leadership of people of this calibre. I reiterate that there is no move at all to create a new movement as a rival of the TNA. Please don’t give room for any such move.”
