Ruwanthi not nominated; Gayesha hopeful

Popular actress Ruwanthi Mangala said she has not been nominated to contest the upcoming Western Provincial polls on the UPFA ticket.

She told the Daily Mirror that although several Ministers and provincial councilors wished her for receiving nominations yesterday morning, MP Duminda Silva had informed her in the evening that she was not being nominated.

“I was not given any explanation other than the fact that I had missed my opportunity since the party decided not to field actresses,” she said.

Speaking of her future political aspirations, Ruwanthi said, “I was placing all my expectations on receiving nominations. But now since it has not been realized, I will have to rethink my plans regarding my future in politics. . .”

Actress Gayesha Perera however said she was still expecting nominations as she has not been informed otherwise. “I have not yet been informed regarding the progress on my nomination so I am still expecting to receive it. However, I must say that the media created many issues concerning the nominations involving my name,” she said.

However, those who were selected to be fielded by the UPFA at the upcoming Western and Southern provincial polls signed nomination papers yesterday. (Lakna Paranamanna)
