The Court of Appeal today issued notice on Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to appear in court on September 16 following a writ petition filed against illegal removal of forest cover and illegal re settlement in Wilpattu National Park.

The Writ petition was filed by the Centre for Natural Justice. (LS)

These refugees were made use of in a cunning manner to acquire government land and obtained crown title and afterwards it will be deceptively transferred to interested person behind this sinister move. The Wilpattu land is amongst the remaining few with rare bio-diversity and the encroachment that has and would take place if this is handled badly, will encourage encroachment of all remaining land and our country will end up as a desert. Surely there could have been other lands to settle these refugees. The officials would have been handsomely bribed through NGOS to manipulate facts.
