Anyway, why take all that trouble now because very soon, there will be a new National Anthem called "Maha Rajanani" and that can be incorporated into the proposed 19th Amendment to the Constitution!

This one anyway is not national, because the music is of Indian origin. Why not do away with this one and make new one while our Mastreo Amaradeva father of Sri Lankan music still living. He was fortunate to be part of creating Maldives national anthem. Why not one for the mother land.

Sinhala (Sinhalese) is just a language, this language belongs to all the citizens of Sri Lanka. Please dont mix this up with religion. Sri Lanka's official language is Sinhala, so all the citizens have to accept it.

Article 7 of the 1978 Constitution reads - "The National Anthem of the Republic of Sri Lanka shall be "Sri Lanka Matha", the words and music of which are set out in the Third Schedule". The words are in Sinhala. This Article cannot be amended, repealed or replaced without a vote in favour in Parliament of not less than two-thirds of the of the whole number of Members including those not present and also approval by the People at a Referendum. Cabinet or the President cannot change it. It is very doubtful that the People will agree to any change. This is an unnecessary controversy.

Not sure what the big argument is about. SL is dirt poor and has been robbed since independence by politicians and extremist. Whats so proud to be Sinhalese, what have we achieved in the last 500 years. Sinhalese had a great civilisation 2000 years ago, its been downhill since.

Irresponsible, narrow-minded statements lead to disharmony. Surely, including verses in Tamil will be a useful step to promote and foster racial harmony, and a unique SRI LANKAN identity. For example, the South African national anthem includes verses in the five most widely spoken of that country's eleven official languages.

I don't think the National Anthem should be changed - I am not for it...All Sri Lankans should agree to not change it...but they also should treat each other equally. Changing the National Anthem will not serve any purpose - The majority should treat every religion with respect and anyone who tries to incite racism should be prosecuted -

Errrrrrrrm does any ordinary citizen asked for this kind of thing ?? country is peaceful at the moment excluding the day to day robberies and killings and rapes, and some witty politician wants to kill the peace again by dragging and creating unwanted issues in ordinary people's mind. National Anthem in SL should be sung in Sinhala because Sinhala is the language spoken by the majority of the population in Sri Lanka. Tamils are not complaining about the Indian National Anthem being sung in Hindi. What would the Americans do, if the minority Chinese population there wants to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Chinese?

There are real issues to handle in terms of devolution of power. These opportunist politicians trying to deceive tamil nation by doing things which are not helping address the real issue.

National Anthem should not be touched. Can someone tell me a single thing Minister Vasideva has done to this country as a minister, other than coming up with most stupid idea ever?
