Law College students today staged a protest over the suppression of their fundamental rights with regard to the entrance examination and other examination irregularities.

Students belonging the ‘Students Society for the Protection of Legal Education’ said there was a significant reduction in the number of entrants to Law College, the examination results were being withheld and that one of the test papers had been released prematurely.

They said only 177 students were permitted to enter Law College this year, a figure substantially lower than the usual intake of 225 students and that this was a steep drop from the intake of 557 students to the Law College in 2012.

The students said, those above the age of 30 being declared ineligible to sit the entrance exam had further contributed to the gradually declining figures.

Students urged the Justice Minister to resolve these shortcomings without delay
