New human smuggling racket busted
Immigration officers have busted a major human smuggling racket that involved smuggling people via international flights, the Katunayake Immigration and Emigration department revealed.The racket had come to light after the arrest of a Sri Lankan who had been deported from China for possessing a forged visa.
The man, whose final destination was France, had traveled with the smuggler to Singapore and then to China with the fake visa with the final destination being France. The man had been apprehended by the Chinese Immigration and Emigration department but the smuggler had escaped. (Deepa Adikari)
