President Mahinda Rajapakse has confirmed that he will indeed be attending the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi's on May 26.
“#India receives confirmation of participation from #SriLanka @PresRajapaksa to attend @narendramodi swearing-in ceremony on 26 May,” read a tweet from Syed Akbaruddin, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Confirmation of Rajapakse's participation came in the midst of a number of political outfits in Tamil Nadu demanding that the incoming leadership rescind its invitation in the light of accusations against Rajapakse's government for war crimes, human rights abuse and genocide in the end stages of Sri Lanka's decades-long bloody civil conflict.
The BJP, which leads the new government, has maintained that it extended an invitation to Sri Lanka along with all other SAARC countries, and that this had been done keeping in mind India's standing in the international arena.(Source; New Indian Eexpress)
Meanwhile President Rajapaksa also tweeted confirming his participation. "@narendramodi Thank you for the invitation to attend your swearing-in ceremony. I look forward to being there."

You all throw insults regarding your president. Why don't you do something positive and get him and his cronies OUT!!!!!!
You do not realise that the West are trying to help you in Srilanka, you are being brainswashed into thinking otherwise.

Now our president is living like GOM. He has his unmarked air force one . Lives and goes abroad like bill gates . People are starving in Sri Lanka . He is now training his 3 sons . So he wants to introduce his sons to Modi .

It is rather unusual for a democratically elected leader to invite foreign leaders for his swearing in ceremony. this has followed only in the ancient period during the swearing in ceremonies of emperors inviting kings under their rule. Because of this reason, Pakistan and Bangladesh leaders have declined the invitation. However Sri Lankan president has accepted the invitation shamelessly.
