President Mahinda Rajapaksa had called for a report on the alleged assault on a group of artistes at Kumbukgate in Kurunegala and said that stern action would be taken against the offenders, the Government Information Department said.

A group of young artistes were attacked by goons while conducting a street campaign in support of presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena on Monday.

UPFA North Western Provincial Council member Don Kamal Indika was arrested this morning for allegedly assaulting the artistes.
