The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will introduce 92 Octane petrol to the market in January and 98 Octane diesel in April, Petroleum Minister Susil Premajayantha said today.
“This would be done through several stages. At first, the CPC will introduce 92 Octane petrol to the market next month,” he said.
The present sulfur percentage in diesel is 2,500 Particles per Million (PpM) and the measures to be taken by the CPC will reduce it to 500 PpM.
The minister also pointed out that the new pipelines being laid at Sapugaskanda and Kollonnawa refineries would minimise current leakage issues. (Chaturanga Pradeep-DM Online)

Octane ratings are not used for diesel engines. Certainly octane numbers such as 98 are not applicable. Diesels need low octane but high cetane-value fuels

Octane numbers are not usually relevant for diesel. Certainly not high octane numbers such as 98. Diesel engines require high cetane but low octane-value fuels

Cetane number is the measurement of the quality of diesel. High quality super diesel can have cetane number not more than 60.

Indication of closing down Sapugaskanda Refinery because these products can not be produced there. This decision should have been taken at least five years back. Our very old refinary is uneconomical and produsing more injurious products poluting enviorment
