Matale MC member walks away with Mace

The Matale Municipal Council sessions were interrupted today after one of the councillors took away the Mace.

Several councillors belonging to the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the opposition United National Party (UNP) left the Chamber along with the independent councillor who took away the Mace.

The session was adjourned for about 10 minutes.

The councillor who took away the mace said he did so as a means of protest for not allowing councillors to express their views during the budget debate. (Mahesh Keerthiratne)
