Man dies falling into goda barrel: Police
The body of a fifty four-year-old man who had died falling into a goda barrel was recovered on Saturday morning when the illicit brewery in Madinnagoda, Rajagiriya was raided, the Police said.The victim, A. Jayantha, had been employed at the illicit brewery, the Police said.
The Police said that the team that raided the den had noticed several barrels buried underground to which the illicit brew was flowing through a pipe line from the distilling place located about forty meters away.
The Police suspect the worker might have fallen into the barrel in a drunken state, while attending to brewing on Friday.
The police had taken into custody 18 barrels of goda, copper wires, two gas cylinders and 135 bottles of the distilled kasippu along with two suspects.
A third suspect had escaped, the Police said.
The Acting Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage and JMO Dr. D. Rathnayake visited the scene and conducted investigations. (Muditha Dayananda)
