Lankan helps to arrest robber gang in Saudi



A 25-year-old Sri Lankan youth helped police arrest two burglars who robbed SR90,000 from a restaurant in Riyadh. Riyadh police had received a complaint from a Sri Lankan worker, who said that two robbers entered the restaurant just before dawn when the establishment was closed, stealing SR90,000 after stabbing the worker as he tried to stop them.

The burglars, of Chadian descent, were found to be residing illegally in the Kingdom at the time of the arrest.

The robbers fled the scene as soon as they took the money, which was the total sum of revenues made by the restaurant earlier that day.

Police sent a radio message to all its patrol cars as soon as they received the report with the descriptions given by the plaintiff. The police said that the accurate description of the suspects let to their swift capture.

The Sri Lankan youth had identified the robbers during the police inquiry.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department at the Riyadh police.

The alleged burglars are currently in remand at the Al-Khaleej police station east of Riyadh. The suspects confessed to their crime and will appear in court upon completion of police investigations.

The police reiterated its commitment to combatting crimes in the city and said that no criminal would escape the arm of the law. (Source: Arab News)
