Lankan caught with gold biscuits worth Rs.15 mn



A 40-year-old Sri Lankan was arrested at the Katunayake Airport this morning while attempting to smuggle into the country 31 gold biscuits worth Rs.15.5, Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

He said the contraband weighed about three kilos and was made up of 16 gold biscuits hidden in his shoes and 15 hidden in the waist band of his trouser.

Mr. Gamini said the suspect was a resident of Slave Island and had arrived from Shajah. He is believed to have visited Shajah with the express intention of obtaining the gold biscuits. (Chaturanaga Pradeep)
