Surendra Wasantha Perera alias Karaoke Wasantha, who owns several Karaoke bars in Colombo, was arrested on charges of threatening the police and pretending to be a close relative of a prominent politician. He was later released on bail.

Police also arrested five others in connection with this incident. The suspects were produced in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Investigations had revealed that on January 13, while the police on traffic duty at Orugodawatta and Borella, the suspects had arrived in a Defender jeep and Hummer vehicle and allegedly threatened the police. On one occasion he had claimed to be the brother of a prominent politician and on the other he had claimed to be the private secretary of a minister.

The main suspect is reported to have close links with prominent politicians

We know. MONTERO, HUMMER,PRADO, DAIMLER,POACHE, such vehicles use only by culprits , pimps, smugglers, drug dealers etc. Not a good person uses. coz they can't maintain such with their hard earned money.

OK this clearly shows how the police behave, and the state of the country, if they are kith an kin of a government they can go freely even after committing any crime and for us straight to jail and can detain for up to 48 hours now very good

This guy Wasantha is originally from Nuwara Eliya & he is the owner of Sun hill hotel. He has close links with people like Sumathipala the former BCSL Chief and claims that he is a relative of MP Mahinda Amarasinghe. His bodyguards even uses communication sets similar to the ones used by the forces and they too carry arms. As for me he is nothing more than a pimp who runs Karaoke clubs. The police should keep close track of this guy as he has many connections with the underworld.
