Judge sets aside personal matters in Mangala case



The case against the man who is alleged to have stolen certain items belonging to parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera from his residence at Panadura was taken up for hearing before Panadura Chief Magistrate Ruchira Weliwatta today.

The Magistrate said he would go purely on the evidence of the case as produced by the police and not on media reports regarding the personal matters of the parties concerned. Mr. Samaraweera was present in court today

Police informed Court that the investigations into the incident were completed and that the plaint against suspect W. Preshan Priyiantha on charges of have stolen goods valued Rs.150,000 could be filed.

When the case was taken up for hearing Sergeant Sharmapala of the Panadura North Police submitted the investigation report. He told court that the suspect had stolen seven bottles of whisky on December 29 last year.

Attorney-at-Law Nissanka Nanayakkara who appeared for the aggrieved party told court that the suspect had stolen the articles as he was in need of the money.
