India's external affairs minister Salman Khurshid said that the Indo-Sri Lanka agreement with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi should be respected.

In an interview with Khabar South Asia news agency Kurshid said that the Indo- Lanka accord was a result of a request from the Sri Lankan government.

Following are relevant excerpts of the interview
Khabar: During your recent visit to Sri Lanka did you convey your concerns about Tamil representation in government? Is the India government ready to assist Sri Lanka to calm Sinhalese concerns about a northern Tamil political power base?

Khurshid: Our concern is that the Indo-Sri Lanka agreement with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi should be respected. The Sri Lankan government sought our help, and, in response to that, we were promised that there would be devolution of power from the centre to states -- like it is in India.Sri Lanka is a sovereign state. It is for them to decide about their country. We were assured that the 13th amendment would give Sri Lankans, Tamils and other ethnicities the right to live with dignity and honour.

Why should it be respected when it was shoved down our throats under threat. And also another country's sovereignty should be respected.

I agree with India's external affairs minister Salman Khurshid. Regarding the Indo-Sri Lanka agreement, Sri Lanka have no choice.in long run. with or with out IPKF Sri Lanka should impliment the accord.

Sri Lankans never ever respect to double tongue and double game Indians, Indian Rulers and Indian Politicians. Sri Lankans never ever respect to fake friend India that's why Sri Lankan gave world's best guard of honor to Parsi Ex-Prime Minister, Rajivi Gandhi

The Indo-Lanka Accord was brokered in the 80's as an instrument to usher in peace. It was rejected by the LTTE resulting in 20+ years of terrorism. So how can that accord be valid today?

With all due respect to you Sir, do you honestly think that we Sri Lankans, especially our elected leaders, do want to be in the unenviable position that Hon. Manmohan Singh is in right now, where the "Tail wags the Dog"???? Right now, Ms Jayalalitha, the Chief Minister in the state that the rest of Indians heartily despise, is in a position to dictate The entire Hindustan's Foreign Policy, thanks to the "federal system" that you so advocate??? No SIR!!!! No Thank you!!!! If it is soooo good for you, well, you can keep it!!! Spare us poor people! Let us all Tamils, Singhalese and Moslems be happy in our land that all us were born and will live and die!!!

And FYI, India is continuously losing the clout it had over SL and it started with the Indian wankers siding up with Western powers with vested interests who brought forward punitive resolutions at the UNHRC!!!
