Hirunika should cooperate with other organizers: Faizer
Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha yesterday said he will continue his political activities in Colombo Central despite the appointment of Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of late ruling party politician Baratha Lakshman Premachandra as an SLFP’s co-organizer for the area.Mr. Mustpha told journalists that he will continue his political activities as he is one of the three co-organizers in the area. He said that he has the backing of the majority of local politicians representing the SLFP in the area. He said he has the backing of 11 SLFP members of the Colombo Municipal Council.
The Deputy Minister therefore urged Ms. Premachandra to cooperate with him in making UPFA victorious at the coming Provincial Council elections. “I sincerely hope that Ms. Premachandra would cooperate with other organizers and the local politicians to make the party victorious at the PC elections,” he said stressing that a politicians should give preference to the political party he or she is representing before thinking of manapas. He said a politician should also realize that he or she cannot be successful without the support of local politicians in the area. “” One is able to learn from the local politicians about a particular constituency and I still learn from them,” he said implying that the new-comers should also do the same.
He also said that no one should think of the victory of his kit and kin who may contest and election but should focus on the success of the political party he or she represent.
Responding to a question raised by the journalists as to why a third co-organizer was appointed to the same area, he recalled he was appointed in addition to A. H. M. Fowzie as there must have been some shortcomings with regard to the party organization while Ms. Premachandra must have been appointed in order to overcome more shortcomings. (Yohan Perera)
