Govt. fully behind Shavendra



The Government is fully behind Sri Lankan Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Major General Shavendra Silva the government informed Parliament today.

This assurance was given by Deputy Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera in response to a question raised by UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekerain the House today. Mr. Jayasekera raised this issue during the oral question sessions. Mr. Perera said the government is doing all what it could on behalf of Major General Silva.

The UNP MP said his party is concerned about the Sri Lankan diplomat and inquired as to what the government intends to do about it. “We know he played a major role in winning the war and is concernedabout what had become of him,” Mr. Jayasekera said.  The UNP MP also questioned as to whether the process followed in appointing the Major General to the post was outside the procedure followed in making such appointments.

The Deputy Minister who responded said this was not relevant to the oral question raised by the member pertaining to the diplomatic appointments. (Yohan Perera)
