A series of fire erupted at several places in the middle of the Muthurajawela forest reserve near the Colombo-Katunayake expressway a short while ago, police said.

An official from the fire brigade told the Daily Mirror that the fire occurred in several places in the area which could not be accessed. Three fire brigade vehicles were deployed to douse the fire.

The area was covered with heavy smoke, he said. The cause of the fire has not been established yet. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
