Fast over cattle slaughter called off

The Sinhala Ravaya last night called off its anti-cattle slaughter campaign held outside the Fort Railway station after President Mahinda Rajapaksa assured he would take necessary action on this matter.

The three Buddhist Monks who were fasting unto death left the site last night after receiving the President’s assurance.

Officials from the Presidential Secretariat visited the campaign site and offered water to the three monks, who were later admitted to the Colombo National Hospital in a critical condition.

Sinhala Ravaya Leader Ven. Akmeemana Dayarathna Thera said if this matter was not resolved in six months, the group would take further action.
“We have faith in the President,” he said. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
