Eight arrested for producing defamatory film on SL Army

Eight persons including a lawyer were taken into custody by the Borella police under suspicion of producing a defamatory documentary on Sri Lanka Army at a house in Narahenpita.

Five individuals among the arrested are residents of Jaffna. Investigations have revealed that two of the suspects had migrated to India.

After shooting the film in India the suspects had brought it to Sri Lanka for dubbing. Police said the documentary contained scenes portraying the Sri Lanka Army as an immoral, inhumane and atrocious group.

During the raid, the Police seized the video cassette of the film and the tools and equipment used by them to dub the film.(Muditha Dayananda)

The Police first should find out for whom this film is being shot. If it is for Channel 4 (UK), we must expose them to the world how they are manipulating with manufactured docs against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a democratic country and freedom of speech is enshrined in our constitution. During the last phase of the war some soldiers did commit crimes and the SL is saying it will conduct an investigation. Is it wrong for the people to collect evidence to produce at the internal investigation? This shows that the govt is not ready for the internal in investigation.
