Newly-appointed Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has directed that with immediate effect, the Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya should operate its school sessions from 7.30 a.m to 1.30 p.m similar to all other national schools.

Earlier, this school functioned between 7.30 a.m and 3.30 p.m.

The minister said there was no need to extend the school timesin the absence of any climatic changes. He said the long school hours had reduced the time a student had for leisure activities.

Isnt this ridiculous? If the parents, students, teachers have no problem with the existing timing, why this new minister wants to change it? And it is a model school. Let them function as it is.

How do you know students and teachers and parents had no problems? The change was done at the request of teachers and parents. The students and teachers were under a lot of pressure due to extra school hours and a totally futile evening program where one teacher teaches Japanese to 300 students at the same time ! A school cannot be a lab full of lab mice for people to experiment .

This is good news. My Son is at grade 7 and he is coming to house around 4.30 as a half dead. He cannot go for extra classes or to play with kids. Good decision.

first of all change the name.. no need everywhere in the country to have this MR name for everything. name a pubic rest room with this name as well if he built one ha ha ha.... school system should have a common system no alternative as a one man needs it. SL got a good big change now. across USA all school buses are the same. he has thought the SL is his own property and can do whatever he likes to do. ridiculous.....

The new government must take action to remove names of living politicians on schools, bridges, airports,harbours, toilets etc built with public funds. If someone needs his.her name that must be built with his own funds.

This is not North Korea.....they should remove Living peorsons names from govt. buildings.........in this case its Rajapaksa.He could have them named after him later once hes dead and gone..
