JVP leader’s cab driver arrested

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s cab driver was arrested on charges of reckless driving, following yesterday’s accident in which Mr. Dissanayake was injured, Police said.

Mr. Dissanayake’s vehicle had collided with an oncoming tipper when the driver had attempted to overtake a vehicle in front on the Ratnapura-Panadura Main Road on Monday afternoon.

Police said the driver would be produced in the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile, Colombo National Hospital Chief Nursing Instructress Pushpa Ramyani de Soysa told daily mirror that some medical tests needed to be carried out after Mr. Dissanayake complained of chest pains, but his health conditions was stable.

Meanwhile Mr. Dissanayaka’s driver was released on a surety bail of Rs.50,000 by the Ratnapura Magistrate Court today. The next date of the hearing will be on August 4. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
