Defender driver arrested
The driver of the Defender vehicle which rammed into a bus halt after colliding with a tipper was arrested in Welikada, Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said.He said the driver was a 23-year-old university student and his reckless driving had led to the crash.
“He was admitted to the Colombo General Hospital on Monday evening and was later arrested by the Welikada police,” SSP Ajith Rohana said.
A 17-year-old girl who suffered a fracture on her left knee in the accident had been operated on last evening while an 18-year-old youth whose spleen was injured was also operated on and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The accident occurred at Kalapaluwawa Junction in Rajagiriya on Monday afternoon. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
