Complaint against Harsha withdrawn

A medical officer’s driver who lodged complaint claiming that UNP Parliamentarian Harsha De Silva had assaulted him over a land dispute in Longden place, Colombo on Sunday, had withdrawn his complaint today, Police said.

They said the complaint was withdrawn after driver and Mr. de Silva had agreed it was not necessary to investigate this matter any further.

The driver had complained to the Narahenpita police last Sunday that Mr. De Silva had beaten him on the head. But Mr. De Silva earlier rejected the allegation saying it was a fabrication.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement Parliamentarian Harsha De Silva stated that the police complaint against him has been withdrawn and said that despite considerable pressure, the conscience of the accuser could not be bought, and the truth has finally prevailed.

“I am happy to state that all charges of assault made against me by a person by the name of Upali Silva have been completely withdrawn. Despite considerable pressure, the conscience of the accuser could not be bought, and the truth has finally prevailed. I’m a person who lives by the law, and fights to protect the law. I have maintained my innocence throughout this episode, and now I have been exonerated,” he said.

He also said that, “let there be no doubt that this was a calculated attempt to discredit me, although ultimately futile. This incident only strengthens my resolve to fight for the economic and political rights of the people. I assure all Sri Lankans that I will continue to do battle with this corrupt and immoral regime while adhering to the principles of non-violence, honesty and intellectual integrity.” (Darshana Sanjeewa)

No false allegations are accepted man. You have trapped the wrong person (Mr. Harsha) mind it. You must ask forgiveness from him mann.

This is the norm of the day. In this case Mr. Silva managed to convince the person to do the right thing rather than stoop to low levels of mud slinging and character assassination by false complains.

When the rule of law is not applied to grave crimes committed day in and day out in this country this sort of incidents are nothing. Though it is commendable that sanity has prevailed at last in this case and also in the Mr. M Samaraweera case.

It's a start though it's small.
